In 1923 Czechoslovak track and field athlete Alois Sobotka won bronze in the long jump at the International Universities Championships in Paris, France. The following year Sobotka competed in the same event at the 1924 Paris Olympics where he finished 18th. He was also scheduled to run in the 4 × 100 metres relay at the Paris Games but the team from Czechoslovakia did not start the race.
