Roger Kangni was one of the first three track & field athletes to compete at the Olympics for Togo, as he ran the 800 metres in 1972 at München. Kangni later attended the University of Montréal and became a coach in Montréal. His daughter, Sandrine Thiébaud-Kangni, ran the 400 metres at the 2004 and 2008 Olympic Games.
