Biography

Joe Goddard was a Trinidadian track and field athlete who specialised as a sprinter. In 1956 Goddard was selected to compete at the Melbourne Olympics, running in both the 100 and 200 metres. One year later he won silver in both races at the British West Indies Championships in Kingston. His best performances came at the 1958 edition of the championships at home in Port of Spain. There Goddard won gold in the 4 x 100 metres relay, silver in the 100 metres, and bronze in the 200 metres. That same year he also competed at the British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Cardiff, Wales, running in the 100 yards and the 4 × 110 yards relay. After his athletics career Goddard worked as a businessman for many years in both Trinidad and Tobago and the United States.

Personal Bests: 100 – 10.4 (1958); 200 – 21.3 (1957).
