Üner Teoman took up track and field athletics as a high school student in 1947 and, one year later was selected to represent Turkey at the 1948 London Olympics. There, she took part in the 100 metres event and was eliminated in round one. She continued to compete for several years and won national titles in the long jump and the 100 metres in 1951, but she retired shortly thereafter due to a lack of resources for women’s sport. She also played basketball. Teoman studied fine arts in Paris, where her father, a former footballer, served as a cultural attaché.
