Biography

Nataliya Akhrimenko was a Soviet track and field athlete who specialised in the shot put. In 1980 Akhrimenko competed at her home Olympics in Moskva where she finished seventh with a best throw of 19.74 metres. Three years later she won bronze at the Summer Universiade in Edmonton, as well as silver in the discus. She continued to have consistent results at international events, winning silver at the Goodwill Games and bronze at the European Championships, both in 1986. One year later Akhrimenko became the European indoor champion when she won gold in the event in Liévin, France. That same year she also finished fifth at the both the World Championships and the World Indoor Championships. In 1988 she made her second and final appearance at the Olympics, once again finishing seventh.
