Biography

Before 1976, Yevgeny Mironov was virtually unknown, but that year he surprisingly won the Soviet shot put title with 21.53, which would remain his personal best, and he was selected for the 1976 Soviet Olympic team. At the Olympics, Mironov won silver. He also won silvers at the 1978 European Championships, 1981 World Cup and 1981 European Cup. Besides his 1976 title, Mironov won another Soviet title in 1981 and bronzes in 1978, 1980 and 1983. After finishing his sports career, Mironov worked with the Committee of Physical Culture and Sports of St. Petersburg.
