Nikolay Sviridov

Nikolay Sviridov was a Russian long-distance runner and coach who represented the Soviet Union. A specialist in the 10,000 metres Sviridov won bronze in the event at the 1969 European Championships and gold at the 1973 European Cup, and was the Soviet champion also in 1973. In 1968 he set a Soviet record in the distance and followed that up in 1969 with a European record.

Sviridov competed at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics and the 1972 München Olympics. At the 1968 Games he finished in seventh place in the 5,000 metres and fifth in the 10,000 metres. At the München Games he only competed in the 5,000 metres where he came eighth. Sviridov later became an athletics coach with Oleg Strizhakov being one of his students.
