Biography

Maicel Malone was a 400 metre specialist who ran at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, winning a gold in the 4x400 relay. Malone had a major international record, mostly in the relay. At the World Championships, she won relay gold in 1993, and silvers in 1997 and 1999. She won three gold medals at the World University Games, with golds in the 400 and 4x4 in 1991, and repeating in the 4x4 in 1993; and she won a relay gold at the 1991 Pan American Games. Finally, Malone competed twice at the Goodwill Games, winning a silver in the 4x400 in 1990 and gold in that event in 1994, with a silver in the open 400 metres.

Malone was three times US Champion at 400 metres, winning in 1990, 1996, and 1999. She was also second in 1988 and 1994, and third in 1995 and 1997. Malone attended Arizona State University, where she was on the podium in the 400 metres three times – champion in 1990, runner-up in 1988, and third in 1991. Malone went into coaching, first as an assistant at Florida State, and then in 2005 she became the head women’s coach at Florida A&M University.
