Jo Ann Terry was a multi-event athlete for Tennessee State University, who ran track and played on the basketball team. She competed at two Olympic Games, and won a gold medal in the 80 metre hurdles at the 1963 Pan-American Games. In 1960, Terry won AAU titles in both the high hurdles and the pentathlon. She later became a physical education teacher and coach in the Indianapolis Public School System, and also continued to compete in masters’ track and field.
