Biography

Amber Welty was a high jumper who competed at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. Her only other international appearance was at the 1992 World Cup where she finished sixth. Welty jumped in college at Idaho State University, winning the 1988 NCAA title, which made her the first Idaho State athlete to win an NCAA Championship. She was also second at the NCAAs in 1990, and third in 1987. Welty won five Big Sky Conference high jump titles during her time at Idaho State. At the USA Championships she was second in 1992 and third in 1988. She was recruited as a heptathlete and hurdler, but after breaking her foot her freshman year, she focused on the high jump. Welty later married a dairy rancher and she and her husband ran a large dairy farm in Texas.
