In an obscure event, she also set a world record in the 300 metres in 1928. Wilson joined the WAVES (United States Naval Reserve / Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) in 1942 and served until 1945, and then re-enlisted in 1948, eventually serving as a lieutenant commander.
