Lesley Ashburner of Cornell University reached the final of the hurdles at St. Louis and missed second place by inches. He did win the handicap event associated with the 1904 Olympic competition. At Cornell, he was twice a letterman in track, set the Cornell indoor hurdles record for 100 yards in 1904, and the outdoor mark in the 120-yard hurdles in 1905.
