Biography

Ervin Barker was a high jumper at the University of Iowa, where he was captain of the track team and class vice-president as a senior. He competed in the high jump at the 1904 Olympics. Barker also took part in two non-Olympic, or demonstration events, in 1904. He won the handicap high jump, clearing 5-10 (1.78), winning with a handicap of 4½ inches, for a mark of 6-2½ (1.89). He also finished fourth in the handicap long jump.

Barker later attended law school, and became a lawyer, practicing in Spokane, Washington. In 1908 he married Alice M. Coward.
