Bob Beckus was a horizontal jumper for Compton Junior College and the Los Angeles AC. He had starred at Herbert Hoover High School in San Diego, where he was a classmate of future baseball legend Ted Williams. Beckus was AAU triple jump champion in 1947, and also placed in the long jump at the AAU meet, with sixth in 1947. Beckus later became a high-powered professional lobbyist working with the California legislature.
