Wade Bell

Wade Bell ran for the University of Oregon and the Oregon TC. He was a member of the Oregon TC 4xMile team that, in May 1968, bettered the world record for that event, although it was never ratified by the IAAF. Bell was Pan American Games Champion in the 800 in 1967 and won that event at the NCAA in 1967 and the AAU in 1967-68. Bell stayed in the Eugene area and, in 1970, began a long tenure as clerk of course at meets at Oregon’s Hayward Field. Bell also served as president of the Oregon Track Club for several years, and as meet director of the Prefontaine Classic in the 1970s. Bell’s career was as an accountant and he helped his former coach, Bill Bowerman, co-founder of Nike, set up a private foundation in Eugene for Nike’s philanthropic goals.
