Fred Bellars won the AAU 5-mile event in 1908, and was runner-up in 1909-10. He was also AAU Cross-Country Champion in 1907-08 and 1910. He ran for the New York AC. Bellars was briefly suspended in 1909 for failing to submit a statement of his expenses for a trip to Berwick, Pennsylvania over the Thanksgiving holiday.
