Jeff Bennett was very small for a world-class decathlete, at only 5-8 (173 cm) and 152 lbs. (69 kg.), but he succeeded Bill Toomey as America’s top decathlete, until he was supplanted by Bruce Jenner. Bennett won the AAU decathlon in 1972-73, was runner-up in 1974, and finished third in 1970-71. He competed for the U.S. Army and Oklahoma Christian College.
