John Brooks won the NCAA long jump title in 1933 for the University of Chicago, after having finished as runner-up in 1932. He won the Big 10 long jump title in 1932-33. Brooks’ school record in the long jump at Chicago lasted into the 21st century. Between 1932 and 1937 he had five podium finishes in the long jump at the AAUs, but never won that title. A native of Chicago who attended Hyde Park HS, he later competed for Ogden Park AC.
