Charles Chadwick

Charles Chadwick was a weight-thrower for Yale and later the New York AC. He won the IC4A hammer throw in 1896 and also placed in that meet in 1894 (second) and 1897 (third). Chadwick starred as a football player at Yale, even playing one year while he was in law school.

Chadwick was admitted to the New York Bar in 1899, and also worked as a sports writer for the New York World and New York Sun. In law he became deputy assistant district attorney for New York City from 1902-06 and was assistant corporate counsel for the city in 1908-09. Chadwick was also a writer, especially of short stories, but he wrote two novels, The Cactus, and The Moving House of Foscaldo. He later became a director of the New York AC and a well-known sports administrator in the New York area. Chadwick was a member of the Bar Association of the City of New York, the Connecticut State Bar Association, the Author’s League of America, and the Author’s Guild.
