Bob Chambers placed third in the 1948 NCAA 800 for Southern Cal. At the AAU meet, he finished third in 1951 and fourth in 1952 in the 800. He later competed for the Los Angeles AC and the US Navy. He was a track coach at Pierce Junior College in Los Angeles, and worked for 34 years (1954-88) as a Los Angeles lifeguard.
