Don Clary represented the United States several times internationally. In addition to the 1984 Olympics, he ran twice as a senior in the International Cross-Country Championships (1980, 1982), also competing as a junior in 1975, and finished fifth in the 5K at the 1983 Pan American Games. He was the 1978 TAC Champion in the one-hour run. He was runner-up in the 3,000 at the 1985 World Indoor Championships. Clary ran for the University of Oregon.
After his running career ended, Clary obtained a masters’ degree in industrial relations from Oregon. He became a banker in Alaska, working for Denali Federal Credit Union. He and his wife also ran Adams Street Bed & Breakfast in Seward, Alaska.
Personal Bests: Mile – 4:01.30 (1982); 2 miles – 8:39.44 (1981); Steeplechase – 8:26.9 (1979); 5K – 13:27.41 (1986); 10K – 28:07.01 (1984).
