Mark Conover ran the marathon at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. He was a distance runner who competed in college at Humboldt State University, where he was 1981 NCAA D-2 10,000 metre and cross-country champion. Conover ran on the roads professionally for a few years but then developed Hodgkins’ disease, which ended his career in 1993. He later became a track and cross-country coach at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. He eventually died from Hodgkins’ disease but fought it valiantly for almost 30 years.
