Biography
Edward Curtis competed for the US Naval Academy, after starring in track and football at Jesuit High School in New Orleans. At the 1920 AAU meet, which doubled as the Olympic Trials that year, he finished second in the 1,500. Curtis graduated from Annapolis in 1922 and began his compulsory military service. In November 1926, shortly after being transferred from the Pensacola Naval Air Station, Curtis was on a training flight from the Norfolk Naval Station when the plane crashed, his parachute became entangled, and he was unable to get out before the crash.
