Biography

Bob Day was a native Southern Californian who attended UCLA, but also competed for the Southern Cal Striders and the Fort MacArthur Track Club. Day won the NCAA mile in 1965 while at UCLA. A business major in college, he was considered the top collegiate cross-country runner in both his junior and senior seasons. Day was 1968 AAU champion in the 5,000 metres.

Day was inducted into the UCLA Hall of Fame in 2002 and the top UCLA distance runner each year received the Bob Day Award. His business career was in the healthcare industry, but he also served as a track coach at Beckman High School in Irvine, California.

Personal Bests: 880y – 1:50.3 (1964); 1500 – 3:41.6 (1967); Mile – 3:56.4 (1965); 2 miles – 8:35.4 (1965); 5000 – 13:40.2 (1968).
