Fred de Selding finished second in the 1908 IC4A 400 for Harvard, which doubled that year as one of the Olympic Trials for the US and qualified him for the 1908 Olympic team. He graduated from college in 1910. At the Olympics de Selding was drawn in heat 15 with Britain’s Wyndham Halswelle, who went on to win the gold medal. He finished second in the heat to Halswelle but in that Olympics, only the heat winners went on to the semi-finals, eliminating de Selding.
