In a career that lasted from 1966-80, Tom Dooley won four AAU walk titles – the 2-mile in 1970, the 20 km. in 1971 and 1975, and the 40 km. in 1967, and set 11 US race walking records. In the 1971 Pan American Games, he was the silver medalist in the 20 km. walk, and later represented the US at the 1977 World Cup in the 50 km. walk, although he did not finish. He also competed in two other World Cups and the 1967 Pan American Games. Dooley attended the College of San Mateo where he ran on the track team.
