Running for Butler University, Rilus Doolittle finished third at the 1924 Olympic Trials in the 5K. He won the 1924 Western Conference (later Big 10) Championship in the 2-mile, and was Indiana 2-mile champion from 1922-24. He later became an engineer and metallurgist for the P. R. Mallory Company. Doolittle was an Indianapolis native who was born there, and lived there all his life.
