“Slinger” Dunn was leading the 1936 Olympic discus competition until Ken Carpenter, whom Dunn had beaten at the Final Trials, got off the winning throw on his fifth trial. While at Stanford, Dunn had won the 1934 NCAA and IC4A. Dunn later became the Mayor of Fresno, California from 1949-1957.
