Dike Eddleman won the NCAA high jump in 1948, after finishing second in 1947. He also finished fourth in that event in 1946 and 1949. Eddleman also played football and basketball at the University of Illinois, and won 11 varsity letters for the Illini. He competed in the Rose Bowl in 1947 as a punter on the football team, and in basketball led Illinois to the 1949 Final Four. He later played four years in the NBA, with the Tri-Cities Blackhawks and the Fort Wayne Pistons, making the All-Star Game in 1951 and 1952.
In 1993, the University of Illinois named their athlete-of-the-year awards for Eddleman. He also worked for the Illini for many years as their chief fundraiser, beginning in 1969.
