Robert Emery attended the University of Illinois and later ran for the Chicago AA. He finished third in the 1920 AAU 400, which doubled that year as the Olympic Trials and qualified him for the Olympic team. Emery was a Chicago native, born, living and died there, but little is known of his life. In 1930 he was working as a clerk at a publishing house in Brooklyn.
