Al Fitch of Southern Cal placed fourth at the 1936 Final Trials in a race in which the first five finishers were Californian athletes. At the Berlin Olympics he ran the anchor leg on the relay team that took the silver medals. His best mark at 400m was 47.0est behind Archie Williams’ 47.0 at the 1936 NCAA and at 440y he had a best of 47.4 in finishing second in the Pacific Coast Conference meet at Berkeley in May 1936.
