Biography

In the indoor AAU meet, Herbert Gidney won the high jump in 1906. Outdoors, he finished second in the high jump in 1906-07 and third in 1908. He competed for the Boston AA. Gidney served in World War I with the 2nd Battallion, 151st Depot Brigade out of Camp Devens, Massachusetts. He became chief of finance for the ordnance department of the US Army in May 1918 and was promoted to colonel. After the war Gidney joined Gulf Oil Corporation, starting as their chief accounting officer in 1920. He became comptroller in 1925, vice-president in 1933, and a company director in 1941.
