Charles Haworth ran for Penn College of Iowa. He finished fourth in the 1928 US Olympic Trials, which qualified him for the Olympics, but he failed to make the final in Amsterdam. Haworth served as a lieutenant in the US Navy during World War II from February 1944 to February 1946. In the US he was based at the Pensacola Naval Air Station. In civilian life, Haworth was a high school teacher and principal.
