Biography
Joe Healey was AAU 400 hurdles runner-up in 1932 and 1933. The 1932 AAU doubled as the Olympic Trials which qualified him for the US Olympic team. He competed for New York University and the NYAC.
Healey graduated from NYU in 1935, and then became a captain in the New York City Fire Department from 1937-57. He also worked as an assistant track coach at NYU from 1948-57, when he was named head coach, holding that position until his retirement in 1978. In 1971 Healey was named coach of the year by the United States Track Coaches Association.
