Wayne Johnson was selected for the 1924 Olympic Team after finishing fourth in the Olympic Trial 10K. He never placed at any other major meet, and that Olympic Trial 10K was the first time he had ever competed at the distance. He ran for Bloomfield High School and Wabash College.
After college, Johnson worked in the Ford Foundry in Detroit for a few years but he later returned to Bloomfield and ran a filling station. He then started a small dairy farm but also worked in bridge construction, helping build bridges in I-465 and I-69 in Indianapolis.
