Biography

Although he never placed at the NCAA or AAU Meet, Ron Kutschinski finished third at the 1968 Olympic Trials in the 800 to make the Olympic team. Kutschinski had failed to advance at the 1968 NCAA Meet when he was spiked in a preliminary round, and he was given special advancement to the Olympic Trials because of that. That year he was ranked third in the US by Track & Field News.

Kutschinski ran for the University of Michigan, graduating with a degree in engineering. He later became a real estate developer in Florida, owned several Mexican restaurants, and bought and sold cars in auctions. Kutschinski and his family settled in Vero Beach, Florida. He was elected to the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame, and the Grand Rapids Sports Hall of Fame.
