Aric Long was a decathlete who competed for the University of Tennessee, winning the 1991 NCAA title in the decathlon, and finishing second in 1992. He placed second at the 1992 US Olympic Trials with his career best, which qualified him for the Barcelona Olympics. Long later finished fourth at the 1995 World University Games. He competed through 1996, but retired after failing to make the Olympic team. His son, Bryar Long, became a top swimmer who competed at the Olympic Trials and swam for Auburn University. Aric Long later entered the food service industry, serving as a district manager for five states based out of Knoxville.
