Biography
Fred Lorz finished fifth in the 1904 Boston Marathon and elected to compete in St. Louis at the Olympics. In the Olympic marathon, he was the first runner across the line, but was disqualified when it was discovered he had taken a lift in a car for part of the course. When his cheating was discovered, he was banned by the AAU for life. However, this ban was quickly commuted and Lorz competed in the 1905 Boston Marathon, and won the race. He continued to compete in the Boston race thru 1908, when he finished seventh. He died of pneumonia while quite young.
