As a pole vaulter, Doug Lytle was TAC indoor champion in 1985. Outdoors he finished second in the 1984 TAC meet. In addition to the Olympics, he represented the US at the 1987 World Indoor Championships, finishing eighth. Lytle jumped for Kansas State, winning the 1981 Big Eight Indoor Championship, and being named All-American six times. He later became a coach and owned his own private training and coaching facility, Xtreme Athletics.
