Oliver MacDonald, a freshman at Penn, finished fourth at the 1924 Olympic Trials and was selected as a member of the 4 x 400m relay team for the Paris Olympics. He ran the third leg as the U.S. posted a world record of 3:16.0 in the final. MacDonald earned a D.D.S. degree from Penn in 1927 and returned to his native Paterson to practice dentistry. In 1959, he closed his practice, moved to Flemington, New Jersey and started a real estate brokerage.
