Biography

Fred Murray was on the Stanford track team for three years and was captain in his senior year – 1916. He entered the 1915 AAU as a member of the Olympic Club (San Francisco) and won the 110 and 220 yard hurdles. He won the low hurdles again the following year and won both IC4A hurdle titles in 1916. Murray later served with the American Expeditionary Forces in France and then joined the Metropolitan Newspaper Service and the Los Angeles Times as a sports cartoonist. He later became a noted film cartoonist and radio presenter.
