James O’Connell won the AAU indoor triple jump in 1906, and was third in the outdoor long jump in 1907. He competed for Villanova and the NYAC. O’Connell was a lifelong member of the Hartford Police Department. He was appointed a supernumerary in 1908 and a regular in 1915. Even after he was eligible for his pension, he continued working, spending his final years as a traffic checker.
