Biography

While at Cornell, Harry Porter was not rated as an outstanding high jumper, where his best performance was to tie for second place at the 1905 IC4A championships. After graduation, Porter joined the Irish-American AC and after winning the 1908 Olympic gold medal he went on to take the AAU title two months later. With a mark of 6-4 (1.93) he topped the world ranking lists in 1909, and in 1911 he tied for first place at the AAU.
