Richard Remer failed to place in the 3,000m walk at the Olympic Trials, but in Antwerp he proved to be the best of the Americans by taking the bronze medal. Between 1916 and 1921 he won three AAU outdoor championships and was once the indoor champion as well as setting numerous American records. Remer was educated in the New York public school system and later worked for Manufacturer’s Trust.
