Competing for the University of Washington, Jim Seymour finished sixth at the 1970 NCAAs and was fourth at that meet in 1971. Seymour also finished third in the 1971 AAU Meet and won silver at the 1971 Pan American Games. After college he ran for the Southern Cal Striders. Seymour later worked as an accountant, and was an auditor for the US Department of Defense from 1987-2008
