Competing for Yale, Harrison Smith placed second in the 880y in the 1900 Harvard dual meet. He later ran for the NYAC. Smith graduated from Yale in 1900, the same year he competed in England on a combined Harvard-Yale team against Oxbridge.
After college, Smith taught mathematics at the Hackley School for Boys in Tarrytown, New York. He then ran a dairy farm before becoming personnel manager of United Cigar Stores of New York.
