John Trautmann was a distance runner who ran the 5,000 metres at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. He was USA Champion at the distance in both 1991 and 1992. A runner in college at Georgetown, Trautmann won the 1990 NCAA 5K title, and was later named to the Georgetown Athletic Hall of Fame. Because of injuries, Trautmann retired from competitive running and began work on Wall Street. He gained a lot of weight, but in the early 2000s was inspired to get back in shape, lost the weight, and starting running successfully in masters’ events. In February 2015, Trautmann broke the world indoor mile record for the 45-49 age group, running 4:12.33 at the Valentine Invitational in Boston.
