The University of Southern California claimed the first two places in the 1932 Olympics high jump as Duncan McNaughton took the gold medal for Canada and his fellow Trojan, Bob Van Osdel, finished second. Van Osdel also tied with Bill O’Connor of Columbia for the 1932 IC4A title, and later in the season he was in a three-way tie for first place at the AAU. He reached his career best in 1930 when, as a 19-year-old, he cleared 6-7¼ (2.01) for USC in a dual meet with Occidental, a mark which topped the world ranking lists that year.
Personal Best: HJ – 2.013 (1930).
