James Wendell won the 1912 IC4A 120y hurdles for Wesleyan; the following year he again took the high hurdles and won the 220y hurdles. At the 1913 IC4A he tied the world record for the 220 yard hurdles with 23.6. After graduating in 1913, Wendell earned several honorary degrees as an educator. Most of his life was spent as the headmaster at The Hill School in Pottstown, Penn.
