Fred Wilt was a nine-time AAU distance champion, winning the 3-miles from 1949-51 and the cross-country in 1949 and 1952-53. In 1950 he won the Sullivan Award as the nation’s top amateur athlete. He later became a well-known track coach at Purdue.
